Dr. Alice Hoyt

Hi colleague, đź‘‹

One of the challenges we all face is helping families sift through the overwhelming amount of food-allergy information that’s available online — much of which is confusing, outdated, and anxiety-provoking. Parents need evidence-based food allergy information that is created specifically for them and is encouraging, not fear-mongering.

To make this easier for you and for the families you care for, I’ve developed a compilation of evidence-based, parent-friendly resources on Food Allergy and Your Kiddo. It’s called the Kiddo Content Collection.

📚 The Kiddo Content Collection

A curated hub of:

  • Short, parent-friendly blog posts on topics like dining out, anxiety, school, and so much more

  • Podcast episodes with embedded audio

  • YouTube videos that correspond with audio podcast episodes

Everything is organized for easy browsing, and parents can use the search bar to find great info on the food allergy topic they’re looking for.

🎙 The Food Allergy and Your Kiddo Podcast & YouTube Show

Since 2020, this podcast and now YouTube show has been covering:

  • The nuts and bolts on what food allergies really are and how they can be diagnosed and treated

  • Evidence-based guidance for families managing food allergies

  • Real-world scenarios — travel, Disney dining, school forms, cross-contact, epinephrine readiness, etc., etc., etc.

  • Interviews with clinicians, mental-health experts, and other leaders in the food allergy space

These episodes are a great supplement to information you and your allergy colleagues may already be providing and want your food allergy families to know.

🏥 Why This Matters for Your Practice

Sharing vetted resources helps you:

  • Reduce the misinformation that burdens parents (and their children!)

  • Reinforce your medical guidance

  • Save time (I started the podcast, then as a blog, because I kept saying the same things over and over again to different families — the Kiddo helps reinforce concepts to families and does so when they are in a time that is conventient for them, where they can really internalize the info instead of trying to fit it all into an already jam-packed office visit)

And most importantly — it ensures families hear and listen to clear, evidence-based messages instead of ten conflicting messages online.

Should epi be OTC?

The next day, I spoke on a panel at a meeting sponsored by the FDA. The day aimed at exploring a fascinating question... To screen or not to screen babies for food allergies?
Food Allergy Friday NewsletterDr. Alice Hoyt Hi there, For this week’s Food Allergy Friday, here’s the question I hear often from general pediatricians:“Should we screen babies before early peanut introduction?” Based on current evidence and expert consensus — including the consensus document by Fleischer et al., JACI: In Practice, 2021 — the answer is no:➡️ Routine screening (skin testing or ...
Early Childhood Anaphylaxis Collaborative
Food Allergy Friday NewsletterDr. Alice Hoyt Hello from sunny Florida! I just finished speaking on a panel at the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) annual conference. I had the honor of discussing a topic that is critical for childcare providers to know: how to recognize and respond to anaphylaxis in babies and toddlers. Our youngest patients spend so much of the...
