Food Allergy Friday Newsletter
Dr. Alice Hoyt

Hi there,

Big news this week: my book Navigating Food Allergies: A Parent's Guide to Care, Coverage, and Confidence was published by Johns Hopkins University Press.

I wanted to share it with you specifically because of the role you play in the lives of food allergy parents.

As a pediatrician or peds APP, you’re often the first to identify a possible food allergy—and you are the one parents look to for guidance on what to do next. And if you are an allergist, then you know the value of parents having good information while awaiting their appointment with you.

This book helps parents:

  • Understand what a possible reaction means (and what it doesn’t)
  • Make sense of testing and when a referral is needed
  • Navigate school forms, avoidance, and everyday exposures
  • Build confidence in managing risk without escalating fear

In other words, it’s designed to reinforce your guidance—so you’re not starting from scratch each time, and families come back with a clearer foundation.

I wrote this book so that it becomes a resource you can confidently recommend to:

  • Newly diagnosed and seasoned food allergy families
  • Families waiting to see an allergist
  • Families who need practical, day-to-day support

Thank you for the work you do.

Warmly,
Alice
